His mother and father were living in Creggs, Galway, Ireland and he was traveling to his sisters house Mr & Mrs McIlwain @@ 182 West Street, Englewood, New Jersey. Note for:   Michael DILLON,   ABT 1853 - 1917         Index

Occupation:
     Date:   1906
     Place:   Bootmaker

Individual Note:
Multiple interviews with Connie Shaw provide a wealth of information an Michael and his family. Below are some excerps from those interviews:
8-3-2006 Michael Dillon was born in Mount Mary, was a shoemaker/bootmaker in Creggs and had a house right across from what is now the Heritage Center. The ruins were still there when I first visited some years ago, but they removed all traces of it in the '90s. All the children were born there and Michael. They all emigrated and he lived there until his death in about 1917. Aunt Peggy (McGill) is the only one who ever went back to visit. My grandmother, Mary, inherited the house as the oldest child, but they all agreed that Peggy should get it because she was closest to her father. She owned the house for many years and her daughter, Mary discovered when she died that she had lost the house for non-payment of taxes. Mary was crushed because her mother had never told anyone and of course her children would have paid the taxes to keep the house. Did you know that Michael's wife (our great grandmother, Elizabeth) died in childbirth? I asked my grandmother what her father died of, and she told me "stomach trouble" which could have been any of a gazillion different things.
